iOS App Icon Sizes Reference
Apple requires developers to supply app icons in multiple precise sizes. These are used across the operating system: on the Home Screen, in Spotlight search results, in the Settings app, and for notifications.
Xcode AppIcon.appiconset Requirements
When building for iOS in Xcode, icons are measured in points (pt), which are then multiplied by the screen scale (1x, 2x, or 3x) to get the actual pixel dimensions.
| Usage / Device | Points (pt) | Scale | Actual Pixels (px) |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone Notification | 20pt | 2x, 3x | 40x40, 60x60 |
| iPhone Settings | 29pt | 2x, 3x | 58x58, 87x87 |
| iPhone Spotlight | 40pt | 2x, 3x | 80x80, 120x120 |
| iPhone App Icon | 60pt | 2x, 3x | 120x120, 180x180 |
| iPad App Icon | 76pt | 1x, 2x | 76x76, 152x152 |
| iPad Pro App Icon | 83.5pt | 2x | 167x167 |
App Store Marketing Icon
The largest icon required is for the Apple App Store itself. This is often included within the `AppIcon.appiconset` in modern Xcode versions.
- Dimensions: 1024 x 1024 pixels
- Format: PNG
- Transparency: NOT ALLOWED. Your icon must have a solid, opaque background. Apple will reject apps with transparent app icons.
- Shape: Full square. Do not round the corners yourself. Apple's system applies the standard iOS squircle mask automatically.
