Android App Icon Sizes Reference
Unlike iOS which specifies exact pixel dimensions for specific devices, Android scales UI elements based on the physical pixel density of the screen. To ensure your launcher icon is crisp on all devices, you must provide it in several "mipmap" densities.
Required Mipmap Densities
| Folder Name | Density Qualifier | Scale | Icon Size (px) |
|---|---|---|---|
mipmap-mdpi | Medium (baseline) | 1.0x | 48 x 48 |
mipmap-hdpi | High | 1.5x | 72 x 72 |
mipmap-xhdpi | Extra High | 2.0x | 96 x 96 |
mipmap-xxhdpi | Extra Extra High | 3.0x | 144 x 144 |
mipmap-xxxhdpi | Extra Extra Extra High | 4.0x | 192 x 192 |
Google Play Store Icon
In addition to the mipmap folders included within your APK/AAB, you must provide a high-resolution icon when submitting your app to the Google Play Console.
- Dimensions: 512 x 512 pixels
- Format: 32-bit PNG (with alpha)
- Max file size: 1024KB
- Shape: Must be a full square. Google Play dynamically applies rounded corners (a 20% corner radius) and a drop shadow automatically. Do not pre-round your Play Store icon.
